Succession star Jeremy Strong has joined the cast of Aaron Sorkin's upcoming historical drama, The Trial of the Chicago 7.

After financial issues, the film was finally given the go ahead after Paramount Pictures decided to domestically distribute the film, and Cross Creek signed on to finance it alongside Amblin Partners.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven men charged by the federal government with conspiracy, arising from the counterculture protests in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

Strong will portray Jerry Rubin, an American social activist, anti-war leader, and counterculture icon, who was instrumental in organising the protest during the convention.

Also starring Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Frank Langella, Mark Rylance, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the film will be written and directed by Sorkin.
