Netflix India did not meet with senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) officials to restrict ‘anti-India’ and ‘anti-hindu’ content in their shows, a top executive confirmed on Sunday. 

It was recently reported that RSS representatives were holding ‘informal meetings’ with the streaming platform in Mumbai and New Delhi. The RSS allegedly wanted to monitor digital content they deemed seditious or inflammatory in nature. Recent Netflix India shows like Leila and Sacred Games had come under the RSS scanner for allegedly defaming Hindu symbols and inciting religious discord. 

During a panel discussion at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Srishti Behl Arya, director, International Original Film at Netflix India, denied the reports. “It's not a true story. There was no meeting at all. It's fake news,” Arya was quoted as saying. 

Srishti assured the streaming platform was compliant with the laws of India. “The law is the law. It's not like, 'I don't like you, so I'm going to stab you.' Whatever is permitted by the law, we would go into those spaces and the rest is all about the stories that creators want to tell,” she said.
