“Can Amitabh Bachchan play Avtar Gill?” asks Ayushmann Khurrana in the trailer of Bala, Amar Kaushik’s comedy about love and hair loss in small-town India.
Set in Kanpur, the film stars Ayushmann as Gaurav Rawat, a fairness-product salesman who is balding prematurely and hides his insecurities under a baseball cap. Gaurav falls in love with two women: Bhumi Pednekar as a dusky girl and Yami Gautam as a Lucknow model.
As is routine with Ayushmann Khurrana characters trying to keep a secret, he is lying to one of them — his baldness concealed under a mop of fake hair.
Will Bala get caught? Or will he shed his inhibitions and teach us a lesson or two about acceptance and self-worth? Guess we will find out on November 7.
Bala also stars Abhishek Banerjee, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Saurabh Shukla. The film marks Amar Kaushik’s much-awaited follow-up to Stree (2018).
Ayushmann Khurrana was recently seen in Dream Girl, where he played a female impersonator in Mathura. The actor’s upcoming films are Gulabo Sitabo and Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan.
