Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has tweeted his disapproval of the FIR filed against 49 noted personalities, who wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over the increasing cases of mob lynchings.

Kamal Haasan has asked the higher courts of the country to intervene and quash the case. He has also said that the case is in contradiction to PM’s aspirations for a harmonious India.

Here are the tweets:

In July, 49 popular personalities including filmmakers Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Shyam Benegal, Aparna Sen, and historian Ramachandran Guha, wrote a letter to Narendra Modi, raising concerns over mob lynching. The letter also stated that the chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ is turning into a war cry.

Malayalam filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan said that he couldn’t imagine a court accepting a sedition case against the letter.

Kamal Haasan recently finished hosting the third season of Bigg Boss Tamil. He is currently working with Shankar on Indian 2, which is expected to be released in 2021. Meanwhile, the actor will also produce films under his banner, Raaj Kamal Films International.
