Universal Studios has announced that Elizabeth Moss and Storm Reid-starrer The Invisible Man reboot will be released on March 13, 2020.

The Universal-Blumhouse production venture, based on the 1897 sci-fi novel written by HG Wells.  Over the years, the novel has been adapted for both cinema and television over the years. The most notable adaptation was the 1933 black-and-white film, starring Claude Rains in the title role.

Leigh Whannell will co-produce the film alongside Blumhouse, apart from writing and directing the film which will go on floors in Sydney, Australia in July.

It can be noted that  Universal Studios had earlier planned a shared universe based around its monster characters and had got on board actors like Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem and Sofia Boutella for it. But the initiative has been kept on hold post the failure of Tom Cruise's The Mummy in 2017.

Johnny Depp, who was supposed to take on the title role for The Invisible Man, will not star in it, and the project is being developed as a standalone film.
