Netflix has revealed that Black Mirror, the science-fiction anthology television series created by Charlie Brooker, will return for its fifth season on June 5.

This new installment will consist of three all-new stories from Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones. The stories star Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and a host of other stars.

Once again, technology will be driving the stories in these three pieces, both distracting and tempting the protagonists. In addition to continuing to comment on the state of social media, this season promises to address issues like artificial intelligence, smart technology, and virtual reality.

Interestingly, Cyrus seems to appear in a meta storyline, as she portrays a renowned performer, who undergoes a transformation, aspiring to a higher level of fame.

This new installment comes less than six months after Brooker and director David Slade released the special, interactive standalone, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch in late 2018. In that film, viewers were able to make decisions for the main character (played by Will Poulter) in a “choose-your-own-adventure” scenario that could last for minutes or hours, depending on what permutations of decisions were made.
