The official Hindi remake of Forrest Gump, titled Laal Singh Chaddha and starring Aamir Khan, will release on Christmas, 2020, the makers announced on Saturday. The film is written by Atul Kulkarni and directed by Advait Chandan. Shooting is expected to begin in September with Viacom18 Studios set to produce.

Speaking about the film, Aamir had earlier said, “I've always loved Forrest Gump as a story. It's a life-affirming story of a character. It's also a feel-good film for the whole family. I will be losing 20 kgs, since I have to be lean and slim.” The actor had also confirmed he will be wearing a turban for some portions of the film.

Starring Tom Hanks and directed by Robert Zemeckis, Forrest Gump tells the story of a slow-witted Alabama youth who lives through major events in 20th century America. The film was awarded six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

Aamir Khan was last seen in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs of Hindostan. The film was a box-office failure.
