Singer, voice actor, and leading #MeToo campaigner, Chinmayi Sripaada was banned from the Tamilnadu Dubbing Union on November 17, without a show cause notice, citing non-payment of ‘subscription fees’ for the past two years. 

In a dubbing union meeting that was held on December 29, it was announced that Chinmayi could be reinstated into the union if she were to pay 1.5 lakh rupees, tender an apology letter and submit a re-application to be added as a member.

Chinamyi took the issue to the court, and as a response to her plea, the court has placed an interim stay on her ban from the Tamilnadu Dubbing Union and has asked the union, led by actor Radha Ravi, to respond to the order by March 25. 

About the stay order, Chinmayi says, "It is only an interim stay order. Radha Ravi and his associates are expected to respond on the 25th. And we have to see how things are going to proceed from there. Going by the experiences of the members who have been previously terminated by the union, it's indeed going to be a long legal battle." 

Chinmayi, who has been a voice-artist from 2006, has been among those who spearheaded the MeToo movement in India, by highlighting sexual harassment cases in the Indian music and film industries. The singer had accused Vairamuthu of sexual harassment in a series of tweets, in October. Additionally, she had also highlighted claims made by other individuals against celebrities like OS Thyagarajan, Raghu Dixit, Mandolin U Rajesh, and playback singer Karthik.
