Vijay Sethupathi: Both the films, Sethupathi and Sindhubaadh, were not written for me

The cast and crew of Vijay Sethupathi's upcoming film, Sindhubaadh, met the press and media on Tuesday, with the event also doubling up as an audio launch. Present at the event were director SU Arunkumar, composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, actor Linga, producers Shan Sutharshan and Rajarajan among others.

Sindhubaadh marks the third straight collaboration of Arunkumar with Vijay Sethupathi after Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum and Sethupathi. While it might seem a hit combination on the verge of delivering a hattrick of successes, the director reveals it wasn't really meant to be that way. "I did approach a lot of other actors for Sindhubaadh, but it didn't quite work out. It is only then that Vijay Sethupathi called me up and said we'll work on it. If not for him, Sindhubaadh would not have taken off at all," said Arunkumar. Corroborating this, Vijay Sethupathi said, "After Pannaiyaarum... I had advised Arunkumar to branch out and make films with other actors too. I also recommended him to a few actors and told them he is a wonderful director who would finish the film on time and deliver a quality product. However, it didn't quite work out. I am sure he will get his due soon. Even now, after Sindhubaadh, I have asked him to direct some other actor. Let's see."

Sindhubaadh, which features Anjali as the female lead, also stars Vijay Sethupathi's son Surya in an important role. While both were absent from the event, with the latter having school to attend, they were praised by Arunkumar and Yuvan Shankar Raja.

"Surya is the real rockstar in the film," said Yuvan, while adding that the Sindhubaadh album was very close to his heart.

In an interesting update, Vijay Sethupathi revealed that he plays a slightly hard-of-hearing character in Sindhubaadh. "Anjali, who plays a really loud character, complements my role perfectly. She is one of the pillars of the film, so are Linga and Vivek Prasanna."

Sindhubaadh, bankrolled by K Productions and Vansan Movies, is set to hit the screens on June 21.
