Netflix has picked up the videogame Tom Clancy's The Division for a movie adaptation. Launched in 2016, the game follows a special government agent navigating Manhattan, who, in the wake of a deadly pandemic virus attempts to restore order. Although Ubisoft announced plans to adapt The Division for the big screen few months after its video game debut, it is only now, after Tom Clancy's The Division 2's release in March, that it has come to fruition

Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal have signed up for The Division but original director Stephen Gaghan (Gold) has left the project and has since been replaced by Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch. Known best for his work as an action movie director owing to his background as a stunt co-ordinator, the director is awaiting the release of his next film Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

The filming is expected to start within the next six to twelve months, setting The Division on-course for a late 2020 or early 2021 release date.
