Veteran playwright and actor Girish Karnad passed away at the age of 81 earlier today and actor-director Kamal Haasan took to social media to share his grief and paid tribute to Karnad.

Karnad had acted in Haasan's directorial Hey Ram as Uppili Iyengar, father to the second wife of Kamal's Saket Ram, Vasundhara Das. The actor-turned-politician wrote, "Mr.Girish Karnad, His scripts both awe and inspire me. He has left behind many inspired fans who are writers. Their works perhaps will make his loss partly bearable."
