Jacqueline Fernandez has been approached to essay Smita Patil’s role in an upcoming remake of Arth (1982). Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the semi-autobiographical drama was inspired by Bhatt’s love affair with actor Parveen Babi. The story followed Pooja (Shabana Azmi), a married woman who charts an independent life after her husband (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) abandons her for Kavita (Smita), a successful actor suffering from schizophrenia. For their performances, Shabana won a National Award for Best Actress while Smita bagged a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. 

According to reports, actor-director Revathi is planning to direct the new remake of Arth. The veteran actor had essayed Shabana Azmi’s role in the 1993 Tamil remake of the film titled Marupadiyum. The other characters were played by Nizhalgal Ravi, Rohini and Arvind Swamy. 

Jacqueline Fernandez was last seen in Race 3. Her upcoming releases are Drive and Mrs. Serial Killer. She is also expected to reunite with Salman Khan for Kick 2.
