In The Batman, Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne is reportedly around 30 years old. After much rumor and speculation, the actor was officially confirmed as the next Batman last week, beating out Nicholas Hoult for the role.

Pattinson is taking over from Ben Affleck, who portrayed a world-weary and aged Caped Crusader across three installments in the DCEU (including his cameo in Suicide Squad). But now Affleck is out, and The Batman is going to serve as a reboot of the character from director Matt Reeves.

Rumours were recently rife that Reeves was envisioning a younger Dark Knight, with reports indicating he wanted to cast an actor 15 to 20 years Affleck's junior.  Now, it's known that Reeves had written Batman to be "around 30 years old" in his script. This apparently allowed the director to 'find a happy medium' where he wouldn't have to retread the well-known origin story that's been depicted onscreen multiple times, while also avoiding repeating the older, grizzled angle from Zack Snyder's DCEU entries. So, the film will probably not be an origin story, but about Bruce Wayne ‘trying to find his footing’.

Pattinson is 33 years old, so it will not be much of a stretch for him to play Reeves' Batman. The film is slated for release on June 25, 2021. It will reportedly begin production in early 2020.
