Bollywood mourns demise of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit

The Hindi film industry has taken to Twitter to mourn the demise of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The senior Congress leader, who was unwell for some time and was admitted to a private hospital, passed away aged 81 on Saturday afternoon. 

“Extremely sad to know about the passing away of Sheila Dixit ji effectively changed the face of Delhi during her tenure. Heartfelt condolences to her family,” Akshay Kumar tweeted. 

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, “Sad to hear the demise of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit ji . She was a very dynamic leader, she will be remembered for changing the face of Delhi with the infrastructure and development.”

Singer and BJP Delhi President Manoj Tiwari told the press: “I had met her recently, it is a big shock. I remember how she welcomed me like a mother. Delhi will miss her. May God give her family and her closed ones the strength to bear this loss.”

Sheila Dikshit held officer as Delhi CM from 1998 to 2013, making her the longest serving Chief Minister of the capital territory.  She was defeated by Arvind Kejriwal in the 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. In 2014, she was appointed as the Governor of Kerala but resigned five months later.
