Despite the mixed reviews for the final season of Game of Thrones, the fantasy drama did alright for itself at the Emmy nominations. The series broke the 25-year-old record for maximum nominations by bagging 32 of them, six more than the previous record holder, NYPD Blue.

From Outstanding Drama Series to acting nominations for Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage, and Maisie Williams, among others, Game of Thrones was clearly the highlight of the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards nominations announced on Tuesday.

Joining Game of Thrones in the race for the Outstanding Drama Series category, are Better Call Saul, Bodyguards, Ozark, Pose, Succession, This is Us and Killing Eve.

In the Outstanding Lead actor category, Harington is up against the likes of Jason Bateman (Ozark), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Billy Porter (Pose) and Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us). Meanwhile, Clarke will be competing with Viola Davis (How to get away with Murder), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark), Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and Robin Wright (House of Cards) for the Outstanding actress category.

Apart from Game of Thrones, the next big nominee was The Marvelous Mrs Maisel,  which became the second-most-nominated show with 20 nods, including for Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Last year's winner Rachel Brosnahan will fight it out with Christina Applegate (Dead to Me), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep), Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), Catherine O'Hara (Schitt's Creek), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) for the accolade of Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series category.

HBO's Chernobyl earned 19 Emmy nominations, including Best Limited Series, while actors Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson received nods for the show in the acting categories for a Limited Series or Movie.

HBO scored 137 nominations, beating Netflix's 117. The 71st Emmy Awards will be held on September 22.
