At a time when speculations abound that Kamal Haasan-Shankar's Indian 2 has been shelved, the actor-director-politician has announced that his long anticipated political film Thalaivan Irukkindraan is well and truly alive.

Earlier this evening, AR Rahman took to social media to announce that he is collaborating with Kamal Haasan on something exciting.

While rumours swirled wondering if it would  be a film (Thalaivan Irukkindraan), music video, or political party anthem, Kamal Haasan took to twitter to announce that it was indeed for Thalaivan Irukkindraan.

The film was planned nearly four years back as a Hindi-Tamil bilingual with Kamal doing the lead in Tamil. The Hindi version, titled Amar Hain, was supposed to star Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan in the lead. It was also speculated that AR Rahman would be composing the songs back then.

In an interview two years ago, the actor said the project will be revived post his commitments with Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabaash Naidu. The former released last year to mild response while the latter has apparently been permanently dropped.

Thalaivan Irukkindraan, expected to be about the life of a politician, has now finally been revived, with RKFI and Lyca Productions expected to jointly produce the film.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan is currently hosting the third season of Bigg Boss Tamil.
