Neil Gaiman's famous work, The Sandman, is finally getting a screen adaptation with Netflix striking a financial deal with Warner Bros Television to adapt the graphic novel into a live-action series. This news comes on the heels of New Line failing to convert The Sandman into a feature film after acquiring the theatrical rights over three years ago.

The Sandman is a high fantasy horror tale that takes cues from mythology as the story follows Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, and the Endless (a powerful group of siblings that includes Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire, Delirium, and Dream).

Gaiman's previous works American Gods and Good Omens (co-written with Terry Pratchett) have already been adapted to screen for Starz and Amazon, respectively.

Sources say that this deal will make The Sandman the most expensive TV series that DC Entertainment has undertaken till date. Allan Heinberg, the screenwriter of Wonder Woman, has been roped in to write and serve as the showrunner for the adaptation. Gaiman, who created the ongoing monthly comic, will executive produce alongside David Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).

Netflix and Warner declined to comment as a formal deal has not yet been closed.
