Veteran director Bharathirajaa, who was unanimously selected as the President of Tamil Film Director's Association last month, resigned from the post this morning.

In an official statement shared online, the director-actor has said, “I would like to thank the members of the association, directors, and assistant directors for unanimously choosing me as the President without any competition. But I have realised the downsides of being elected without competition. So, I've decided to step down from my post to facilitate a democratic selection of the President. I assure that my love and guidance for the association and its members will continue in the future."

The date of elections for Tamil Nadu Film Directors’ Association is yet to be announced. It may be noted that director Vikraman served as the President of the union for four years before Bharathirajaa.
