Producer Dil Raju took to social media to announce that his Sri Venkateswara Creations will be bankrolling the Telugu remake of director Prem Kumar's debut Tamil film, 96. The Telugu version of the 2018 film will also be directed by Prem

Putting an end to speculations about the actors playing the lead, the makers announced that Sharwanand and Samantha will be reprising the roles of Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha from the original.

96 revolved around the love story of Ram and Jaanu, two estranged lovers, who meet each other after more than two decades at their high school reunion. It is speculated that the Telugu version will be set in 2009, and unlike the original, will be about two lovers in college, who meet at their college reunion.

The remake, which will have music by Govind Vasantha, will go on floors this March.

Meanwhile, 99, the Kannada version of 96, starring Ganesh and Bhavana, directed by Preetham Gubbi, is already underway.
