Six years after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag —  a biopic on Indian sprinter and Commonwealth gold medalist Milkha Singh — Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra are reuniting for another sports drama. Titled Toofan, the film will be produced by Excel Entertainment in association with ROPM Pictures.

Last seen in the 2017 films, Daddy and Lucknow Central, Farhan will be portraying the lead role of a boxer in Toofan. However, unlike Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the film is an entirely fictional story based on an original idea.

Confirming this, screenwriter Anjum Rajabali says, “It's not a biopic. It's a completely fictional story, based on an original script written by me. I am still developing the final draft of the film.” On the social relevance of the film, the screenwriter adds, “Toofan is set in the present world and will reflect the issues concerning it.”

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s upcoming release is Mere Pyare Prime Minister, a social-drama film inspired by PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign. Farhan Akhtar, on the other hand, will next be seen on screen in The Sky Is Pink, directed by Shonali Bose and co-starring Priyanka Chopra.
