The media streaming giant Netflix has cancelled the shows, The Punisher and Jessica Jones, after a five-year partnership with Marvel Television. Other Marvel shows, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and The Iron Fist, were cancelled last year, and the recent developments have made it clear that the tie-up between Netflix and Marvel has come to an end.

Netflix broke the news through a statement which read, "Marvel's The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix," acknowledging the work of showrunner Steve Lightfoot, star Jon Bernthal, and the cast and crew.

The statement added, "In reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel's Jessica Jones. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."

Netflix's relationship with Marvel is coming to an end ahead of the launch of Marvel's parent company Disney's new Disney+ streaming service. Interestingly, several shows involving Marvel characters, like Loki from the Thor franchise, have already been announced for the new service.
