Author Stephen King's works getting adapted for cinema is not new. Many of his works have been made into feature films right from the mid-70s. Some famous adaptations include Carrie, The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, Pet Sematary, It, and the recently released Doctor Sleep. It's now known that his book, The Dark Half, is set to be made into a film next. 

The book was previously adapted by MGM in 1993 with zombie horror icon George Romero directing and Timothy Hutton starring. The story is that of a novelist whose pseudonym comes to life as a murderous twin after his pen name gets revealed. Hutton portrayed the bestselling author, Thad Beaumont, who also sells crime novels under the name of George Stark. When the pseudonym is exposed, the author and his wife give another author a ceremonial burial -- resulting in George Stark coming alive and going on a murder spree. Interestingly, the film turned out to be a flop, raking in a mere $10 million from a $15 million budget. 

The latest instalment will be directed by Alex Ross Perry, who is known for films such as Queen of Earth and Golden Exits.

Apart from this film, other works of King such as Salem's Lot, The Long Walk, and From a Buick have also been greenlit for film adaptations.
