Rajkumar Hirani approached for biopic on cricketer Lala Amarnath

CE Features

Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming project will focus on cricket. According to a source, the Sanju and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. director has been approached for two films based on cricket.

First, there is a larger-than-life biopic on Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath Bharadwaj. The script has been written by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh and will be produced by Fox Star Studios. Additionally, there is another cricket story being written by Hirani’s long-time collaborator, Abhijat Joshi.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker is also working on a web series and a few other scripts. It’s unclear at the moment which of these projects will go on floor first.

Lala Amarnath was independent India's first cricket captain. He captained the team in the first Test series win against Pakistan in 1952. He was the first Indian batsman ever to score a century in Test cricket. As per speculation, actor Shah Rukh Khan may portray Lala Amarnath in Rajkumar Hirani’s next.
