Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s directorial comeback Shikara will be released on November 8. Set in Kashmir, the film is based on the Kashmiri Pandits exodus in the late 80s and 90s.
Vidhu, who hails from Srinagar, shot the film in real migrant camps in Kashmir. He has earlier directed the militancy-themed Mission Kashmir set in the valley.
The cast of Shikara features local actors and newcomers. Shooting began in March last year in Batote.
Vidhu’s last outing as a director was the 2015 Hollywood film Broken Horses, a remake of his own Parinda. His other directorial credits include Sazaye Maut, Khamosh, 1942: A Love Story and Eklavya: The Royal Guard.
As a producer, Vidhu is best known for bankrolling the blockbusters Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots and PK. Earlier this year, he produced the LGBTQ-themed family drama, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.
Shikara is produced by Vinod Chopra Films and presented by Fox Star Studios.
Meanwhile, another film based on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits is being helmed by director Vivek Agnihotri, titled Kashmir Files.
