Padma Shri awardee and six times National Award-winning filmmaker P Bharathiraja’s OM (Old Man) will open at the third edition of Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (3rd Sg.SAIFF). The filmmaker, who will be present at the festival will be honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award.
Narayanan Srinivasan, Festival Director confirms, “We are happy to have a great line up of films this year. With Bharathiraja being present himself, it would be a great honour for us to open the festival with his film OM. What is amazing for me is, while Bharathiraja explored the relationship between an elderly man and a young woman in his 1985 film Muthal Mariyathai, he returns to the theme from a totally unexpected and unexplored angle."
Bharathiraja is widely known for introducing new stars and technicians successfully introduced Nakshatra in the lead role. The film also featured himself playing an important role with Joe Malloori and Mounika in supporting cast in OM.
Sg.SAIFF to be held from 30th August to 7th September. The festival will screen more than 50 films from various regions such as India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Singapore, Bangladesh and Iran.
The festival, which commenced in 2017, serves as a unique opportunity for cultural interaction between South Asia and Singapore with several panel discussions, master classes and other business networking sessions.
