‘Congratulations everyone with this New India’ : Anurag Kashyap quits Twitter

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who last made Manmarziyan, has quit Twitter after his family members started receiving threats for his tweets, where he “spoke his mind.” Kashyap has been an active voice on the microblogging site and has been critical of the current government on several occasions.

In his last tweets, the celebrated filmmaker expressed concern over the lack of tolerance for dissent and the subsequent bullying it fetches. “When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn't going to be reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India & hope you all thrive," he tweeted.

Kashyap further added that if he can’t speak without fear, he would rather not speak at all. “Wish you all the happiness and success. This would be my last tweet as I leave Twitter. When I won't be allowed to speak my mind without fear than I would rather not speak at all. Goodbye," he wrote.

Notably, he was also one of the members from the film fraternity who wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing worry about the increasing number of lynching incidents. According to media reports, the Gangs of Wasseypur director had also filed a complaint last month after facing threats on Twitter.
