After helming popular web-shows like Zindabad, Gehraiyaan, and Tender Dates, director Sidhaant Sachdev is making his feature film debut with a romantic comedy. Tentatively titled Arranged Marriage, the film revolves around the subject of homosexuality and its perception in India. Written by Sajid Samji, the project will be co-produced by Cinemantra and Dil Se Films.

Speaking about the film, Sidhant says, “Arranged Marriage is not a priggish saga of love between a gay couple. The film is far from being preachy. It’s an uber-cool take on families in the 21st century. It reiterates family values and emphasises on finding true love by omitting any bias. It’s about being accepted and finding your own bearings without being morally sanctimonious.”

Shalini Thackeray, who heads Cinemantra and has previously produced the critically-acclaimed film Love Sonia and the Marathi blockbuster, Lai Bhaari, adds, “We, as Indians, love weddings. Arranged Marriage ventures into a different relationship zone in a conventional Indian setting. It's an interesting story which has not been explored before. At Cinemantra we are always looking to work with fresh content and promote new talent.”

Besides this film, Shalini and Sidhaant will also be collaborating on a gritty web series adapted from a book. Both projects are expected to go on floors soon.
