Malayalam filmmaker Vinayan, who has helmed the Tamil films, Kasi and En Mana Vaanil, will be now directing a sequel to his 2000-film Akasha Ganga, which starred Mukesh, Divya Unni, and Mayuri.

The film, which went on floors on Tuesday, will be a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual that stars Ramya Krishnan in an important role, alongside Malayalam actors Asif Ali, Siddique, and Sreenath Bhasi. This will be Ramya’s first Malayalam film since the 2016 Jayaram-starrer Aadupuliyattam.

Scheduled to be filmed on location at Palghat, Pollachi, and Cochin, Akasha Ganga 2 is expected to hit the screens this September.

Since the original is considered a trendsetter among horror-comedy films in Malayalam, a lot is expected from the sequel, which will be a VFX-heavy film.

The makers of Akasha Ganga 2 have roped in Bijibal and Prakash Kutty as the composer and cinematographer, respectively.
