After directing Rajinikanth twice in Kabali and Kaala, director Ranjith announced last November that he would be making his Bollywood debut through the biopic of the tribal leader, Birsa Munda. It has now come to light that the film will go on floors in August.

The biopic,  based on the Bengali novel Aranyer Adhikar by Mahasweta Devi, will be bankrolled by Namah Pictures, who have previously produced films like Beyond the Clouds. Incidentally, Gopi Nainar of Aramm fame had also announced a biopic on the leader last year.  Birsa Munda, an active name in the freedom struggle, is the only tribal leader to have his portrait in the central hall of the Indian Parliament.

An official announcement about the cast and crew of Ranjith's film is expected from the makers soon.
