Coolie No 1 is one of my top-five favourite films: Varun Dhawan

Varun Dhawan is reuniting with his father, David Dhawan, on an upcoming remake of Coolie No. 1. Released in 1995, the cult-classic comedy is regarded as one of the best films of the David Dhawan-Govinda duo. The new adaptation is being penned by dialogue writer Farhad Samji and will feature Varun and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles.

Varun told us, “Scripting is going on for Coolie No 1. We are in the process of locking the script. I’ve heard the story and have already taken my dialogues. It's a very performance-oriented role. The original film (starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor) is one of my top-five favourite films of all time.” The actor adds that the new version is not a remake, but an adaptation.

Coolie No 1 is expected to go on floors in August or September. Varun and David Dhawan have previously worked together on Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2.

Varun's upcoming release is Kalank, co-starring Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapur. He is also working on Remo D'Souza's Street Dancer 3D
