Invoking special powers under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution, the Election Commission (EC) has stalled the release of the upcoming film PM Narendra Modi. Slated to arrive on April 11, the film was granted a ‘U’ certificate with zero cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification on Tuesday. Earlier, the Supreme Court and the Delhi and Mumbai High courts had disposed off petitions seeking a stay on the film’s release, saying that the Election Commission and the CBFC are mandated to look into the matter.

The EC in its order said that any biopic material subserving the purpose of a political party or candidate, which is likely to disturb the level-playing field, should not be displayed in electronic media, including cinematograph material, under the Model Code of Conduct.
