Following the success of Amar Kaushik’s 2018 sleeper hit, Stree, there have been persistent rumours of a sequel being on the cards. Recent reports suggested that Varun Dhawan was being considered to replace Rajkummar Rao in the horror comedy franchise, a claim that was denied by the former during the promotional rounds of Kalank.

We now hear that while there’s still time for Stree 2 to go on floors, Rajkummar will certainly continue to be a part of the franchise. A source says, "Stree was such a huge success that it's only natural that there will be ample talk of a sequel. There is no clarity at the moment when it’s going to happen, but whenever it does, it will star Rajkummar Rao. Director Amar Kaushik too clarified that several times in the past."

Set in Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh, Stree starred Rajkummar in the role of a ladies tailor who falls in love with a mysterious girl (played by Shraddha Kapoor), all while a vengeful female spirit descends upon the menfolk of the town. The film was a major box-office success and is credited for popularising the new wave of horror-comedy films in India.

At present, as a follow-up in the genre, producer Dinesh Vijan is bankrolling the upcoming film, Rooh-Afza, directed by Hardik Mehta and starring Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma.
