As the news of one of the demise of one of the best directors in Tamil cinema broke, tributes have been coming in for veteran filmmaker-actor Mahendran.

The legendary scriptwriter-director had worked with some of the doyens of the Tamil film industry, including MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. His impact reached far and wide, including the political class of Tamil Nadu, which has always been intrinsically intertwined to the cinema of the State.

DMK President MK Stalin tweeted out his condolences and said that director Mahendran was the hero among directors in Tamil cinema. Heaping plaudits on the director, Stalin called him the epitome of simplicity and a multi-faceted personality who was exemplary in every field.
