Filmmakers Pa Ranjith, Sasikumar, Parthiban mourn the loss of director Mahendran

The Indian film industry woke up to the shocking news of the passing away of veteran filmmaker and actor, Mahendran. The unfortunate news was shared on social media by the director's son, John Mahendran, who tweeted,

Filmmaker-actor Parthiban said that death cannot stop the world praising and remembering the abilities of the Mullum Malarum director

Cinematographer-director PC Sreeram reminisced about the kind of impact Mahendran's Uthiri Pookal had on him 

Filmmaker Pa Ranjith shared his thoughts on the legendary director, and said that simplicity was the goal for director Mahendran. Citing films like Uthiri Pookal and Mullum Malarum, Ranjith went on to add that Mahendran, the director, toed the line drawn by Mahendran, the film critic, who wanted to take well-made uncompromising cinema to the audience fed with the usual commercial cinema.

Filmmaker-actor M Sasikumar also took to Twitter to express his condolences, and said that director Mahendran is someone who took Tamil cinema to global standards and his films will always be among us even if the director isn't.

Producer Dhananjayan G, in whose film academy director Mahendran headed the filmmaking course, also shared his grief and provided the address where the veteran director's mortal remains are kept for public to pay their respects
