Fukrey-fame actor Ali Fazal will be playing the lead role in Pradeep Sarkar’s upcoming film, Arranged Marriage. The cast and crew recently began filming in Kolkata. 

“Arranged Marriage explores the relationships between the family and their involvement during the process of an arranged marriage. It’s a twisted tale between the couple and has its own complexities that will be beautifully explored by Sarkar on a large canvas,” read a statement from the makers. 

Speaking about the film, Ali said, “Arranged Marriage is a unique modern day love story set in Kolkata. It's the modern world, it's 2018, it does touch upon some very essential phases of love, relationships, families that are involved in marriages, and how important it is where these families come from. I am very, very excited to work with my co-actors. It's an honour and privilege to work with veteran director and writer Pradeep dada, who has given such powerful and meaningful cinema and has worked with some of the best talents of Indian cinema.”

Pradeep Sarkar’s latest film, Helicopter Eela, starring Kajol and Riddhi Sen, was released to mixed reviews earlier this month. The filmmaker is known for directing films like Parineeta, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, and Mardaani.  

Ali Fazal was last seen in Fukrey Returns and Victoria & Abdul. He is also a part of the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, Mirzapur.
