James Gunn to write DC's Suicide Squad sequel

CE Features

The tussle between Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment has taken an interesting new turn. James Gunn, the director of the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, has reportedly been signed on by Warner Bros to write the next Suicide Squad film. Gunn was recently ousted from the helm of the third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy after his old and offensive tweets resurfaced. Though the cast members rallied to support him, Disney made the decision to fire him from the project.

With Gunn moving on to the Suicide Squad project, Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, took to Twitter supporting his former director and asking where he (Bautista) should sign up for the Suicide Squad project. While it is unclear whether Gunn will also direct the film, his reputation for handling multiple superheroes leaves him in good stead to revive interest in the Suicide Squad series which received only a cold reception when the first film was released in 2016.
