I wasn't confident about Pariyerum Perumal's success till the end of the press show: Ranjith

Last week's release Pariyerum Perumal, directed by debutant Mari Selvaraj, has been unanimously lauded by both the critics and audience. The theatre count of the film has been increased from 115 to 130 this week, despite three new Tamil film releases.

The crew of Pariyerum Perumal (PP) met the press and media today to thank the press and media for spreading the positive word of mouth and taking the film to the people. Talking at the event, filmmaker Ranjith who bankrolled PP said, "I wasn't confident about the film till the press show got over. The success of PP was ensured, the moment press started writing positive things about the film. Few people discouraged me during the starting days of my career saying that Films like Attakathi won't have a successful run in Tamil Nadu, as the film had several frames focusing pictures of Ambedkar. Contrastingly, the same Tamil people have made PP, a film that spoke about Ambedkarian politics in detail, a success."

Director Mari Selvaraj who spoke last, said, "I had asked my wife to deactivate all her social media accounts fearing personal attacks from certain people. Falsifying that I haven't received a single threat call or message till now. On contrary, people from all backgrounds are celebrating the film as their own. This is the success of PP."

Pariyerum Perumal starring Kathir and Anandhi in the lead roles has music by Santhosh Narayanan.
