R Balki’s Pad Man, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte, will be the latest Bollywood film that will try its luck in China. The film will get a theatrical release in the country on December 14, close to a year after its Indian release. The film’s cinematographer PC Sreeram confirmed this news with a tweet from his official handle.

China has become a huge market for Bollywood with several films turning out to be huge cash-spinners in the region. Dangal, for instance, outperformed Marvel’s Black Panther there, and Akshay’s own Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was one of the first success stories for Bollywood in China.

Pad Man is based on the life of Coimbatore-based entrepreneur, Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented a machine to produce low-cost sanitary napkins and made them accessible to the economically underprivileged. The film was also recently screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival in Japan.
