Today marks the 90th birthday of the world's most beloved mouse. Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse made his debut on Nov. 18, 1928, when Steamboat Willie premiered at New York's Colony Theatre, and this date is considered as Mickey's official birthday. The character was created out of necessity when Walt lost the rights to his previous character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Interestingly, Mickey’s voice in the first cartoons was provided by Walt Disney. Following that Mickey appeared in 120 different cartoons and he also got his own TV show titled, The Mickey Mouse Club in the 1950’s. Walt Disney received a special Academy Award for the creation of Mickey Mouse in 1931.

Mickey made its first appearance in a feature film, in 1940, through the famous  Fantasia. The character, whose favourite allies include Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck, has one of the largest selling merchandise in the world.

As a part of Mickey anniversary celebrations, Dinsey has undertaken an initiative that encourages kids and families to ‘Stay Fit’ through dance, featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse leading the physical activities in a dance along video.
