Netflix India denies reports that it will censor content

Following the streaming service Amazon Prime, it was reported that Netflix had agreed to censor sexually explicit and violent content on the platform. It was also stated that the streaming giant agreed to the measure as a compromise following a meeting held on October 25 with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

When we reached out to Netflix India, their spokesperson refuted the media streaming service's presence in any such meeting. Their official statement said: "The information quoted is inaccurate and entirely false. Netflix was never in this meeting."

According to reliable sources, the filmmakers associated with Netflix originals have also denied receiving instructions to tone down the violent and sexual scenes in their works.

While a certain section of the audience had expressed displeasure over the uncensored content available in the over-the-top services, the idea of having a media free of censorship, unlike television and cinema, was lauded by the majority during the time of its introduction. And for now, it appears that this will continue to remain available on Netflix India, at least.
