After a record-smashing box office opening on Day 1 (Rs 50 crores), Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan's big-budget action adventure film, Thugs of Hindostan, reportedly witnessed an almost 45 per cent drop in business on Day 2, following the unanimous critical backlash and poor word-of-mouth.

According to trade reports, the film collected an estimated Rs 28 crore (net) on Friday (Day 2). In some territories, business dropped as low as 50 per cent, while the drop in the states of UP, Bihar, and Gujarat is pegged at 30 per cent owing to Diwali, the report adds.

In another blow, the YRF-produced film was leaked online within hours of its release on the infamous piracy website, TamilRockers, who were also responsible for leaking copies of superstar Vijay's new film, Sarkar.

Produced on an estimated budget of Rs 300 crore, Thugs of Hindostan is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The film also stars Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Zeeshan Ayyub. The story follows a rebellious Thuggee cult in British India that poses a serious threat to the invading East Indian company in early 19th century.
