Tovino Thomas' upcoming film Maradona will reach theatres on June 22. This is one of two Tovino films coming out in June -- the other being Theevandi. The makers have not divulged anything about the film other than the fact that it is a romantic story with action and thriller elements.

The makers have also said that, despite the title, Maradona is not about football. Among the film's cast are Dileesh Pothan (director of Maheshinte Prathikaram, Thondimuthalum Driksaskhiyum) and Chemban Vinod Jose (Ee. Ma. Yau). Debutante Sharanya R Nair plays the female lead, while Tito Wilson, who played 'U-Clamp Rajan' in Angamaly Diaries, has a prominent role.

The script is by Krishnamoorthy, who has worked under Lijo Jose Pellissery and Dileesh Pothan in the past. Tamil actor Dhanush's Mini Studio is producing the film under the banner of Wunderbar Films. This is Dhanush's second production venture in Malayalam after Tharangam, which also starred Tovino.
