Tom Holland has played the role of Spiderman in films like Captain America: Civil War, Spiderman: Homecoming, and the recent Avengers: Infinity War. The young actor will play friendly neighbourhood superhero once again in the upcoming sequel to Spiderman: Homecoming. The latest buzz is that Nightcrawler actor Jake Gyllenhaal will play the supervillain Mysterio in the film.

Mysterio is a recurring character in Marvel's Spiderman comics. The supervillain is a special effects expert, who uses illusions to commit crimes and to fight Spiderman.

It is notable that Jake was in consideration to play Spiderman in the 2004 film Spiderman 2, as Tobey Maguire was down with an injury during the time of its making. However, the latter recovered and returned to the sets.

Marvel's Spiderman: Homecoming sequel is scheduled for release on July 5, 2019.
