Superstar Rajinikanth, who returned back to Chennai on Tuesday after a 15-day spiritual tour in the Himalayas, has reportedly extended his support to the ongoing Kollywood shutdown, which commenced on March 1. 

According to a reliable source, top representatives of the Tamil Film Producer's Council (President Vishal, Secretary Kathiresan and Treasurer SR Prabhu) met Rajinikanth today at his residence to update him about the shutdown. They briefed him about their demands  like regulation of theatres, implementing computerised ticketing systems, regulation of artist's salary and abolition of VPF charges. They also gave him a clear summary of the meetings they had with various organisations involved in the shutdown. Rajinikanth has reportedly asked them to proceed with their plans, while also making sure that the workers don't suffer in the long run. 

This news might be a game changer for the shutdown as the actor had previously requested the TFPC to withdraw the strike. Notably, the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners and Distributors Association withdrew their strike a few days back and announced that other language films and old films will be played in the theatres.
