Spike Lee to helm Spider-Man spin-off

Spike Lee will reportedly direct Nightwatch, a spin-off of Spiderman. He will be working on a script developed by Cheo Hodari Choker. While Sony Executive Vice President Palak Patel will be supervising the film's development, the plot and casting details are not known yet.

Nightwatch will focus on Doctor Kevin Trench, who was first introduced in the comics Web of Spider-Man #97. According to the comics, Trench starts his vigilante adventure after stumbling across a dead man wearing a suit, which he later discovers to be an older version of himself. Nightwatch's suit gives him superhuman strength and senses that enable him to fight villains.

Notably, another Spiderman spinoff titled Venom is being made with Tom Hardy as the protagonist Eddie Brock (Venom) with Michelle Williams playing Ann Weying, Eddie's ex-wife. It has been reported that the stories of both the Spiderman characters are set in the same timeline and this paves the way for a possible crossover film in the future.
