Director of films such as Ricky and the blockbuster Kirik Party, Rishab Shetty is to play the hero in Bell Bottom, a film helmed by Jayatheertha. Both the actor and heroine Hariprriya will be donning vintage 80s looks in the film.
The film is now in its 17th day of shoot and CE got hold of a few shots of the lead pair’s look. They show Rishab lounging in 1980s fashion - suit accessorised with a black hat, cool shades, pipe and a scarf. Hariprriya, meanwhile, is in a polka-dotted saree, wearing a big, floral clip on her hair.
This detective drama will be shot at one stretch, according to its director Jayatheertha. “Almost all the costumes for the hero and heroine have been designed by Rishab’s wife Pragathi Shetty, and she has worked on the eighties look. Most of the props have been borrowed and a few were bought, and we chose them going by the old photos we had. It is a challenge to recreate the authentic eighties look and we have been preparing for this over the last three to four months.”
There was a hunt for the right location too. “We are shooting near Jog Falls. We had done a recce and looked up houses that we had to repaint to make them look like they were from decades ago. We have another ten more days of shooting here, and then we will head to Udupi,” the filmmaker says.

'Always wanted to try the retro chic'
Rishab says, “Heroes in bell bottoms and long collars, their appearance, and the vehicles they used, were all inspirations to me as a child. I used to watch detective films and thrillers, and always wanted to look like them. This film also gave me the opportunity to play a hero. I am thoroughly enjoying the experience and am happy that the film runs on a solid story.”
Nineties child loves the eighties look
Hariprriya, who was born in the 90s, watched her first film only in 2000. The actor is familiar with the eighties fashion and life only through films. “My inspiration comes from having watched Hollywood, Bollywood and Sandalwood heroines of that period. Through my role in Bell Bottom, I get to live through that era… I enjoy playing this role,” she says.
