The Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt-starrer Panipat was announced on March 14 by the film's director Ashutosh Gowarikar, who also released the first look poster. It has come to light now that the period drama, featuring Kriti Sanon as the female lead, will go on floors in November.

The filmmaker, known for his period films like Aamir Khan's Lagaan and Hrithik Roshan's Jodhaa Akbar, took to Twitter to share the news with his followers. He wrote, "Prep is on across all fronts. Filming begins in November. Excited." Ashutosh also clarified that CK Muraleedharan will be handling the film's cinematography and Kiran Deohans was never considered for the role.

The film traces the story of what led to the third Battle of Panipat in 1791. Panipat will be produced by Sunita Gowariker, under her banner AGPPL, in association with Vision World. The film is slated for release on December 6, 2019.
