Ganesh’s next titled Geetha

A Sharadhaa

An actor and director par excellence, Shankar Nag remains a legend in the Kannada film industry. And the film that made him one is the 1981 film, Geetha. Now, Ganesh is about to star in a film with the same title. There have been reports that the actor will be associating with Vijay Nagendra, and Cinema Express has got wind of the latest development with regard to the project. This Geetha will be produced by Syed Salaam in association with Golden Films. Incidentally, this is the second time that Ganesh is associating with Syed, the first being Yogaraj Bhat's Mugulu Nage.

While the film bears the title of the classic, the makers are quick to clarify that although titled Geetha, this film bears no resemblance to the original film. “Apart from the title, Shankar Nag’s personality will be woven into Ganesh’s role. Otherwise, the script is fresh,” sources say.

Vijay Nagendra, who has worked as co-director for Santhosh Ananddramm’s blockbuster films, Mr and Mrs Ramachari and Raajakumara, before turning independent director, will helm this project. Interestingly, the same team who worked on those two films have come together for Geetha. Our sources tell us that Santhosh has lent his “magical touch” to the script, which is also the reason that this film is already creating a buzz. “While Yash brought in shades of Vishnuvardhan in Mr and Mrs Ramachari, and Puneeth Rajkumar brought out Rajkumar’s personality in Raajakumara, Ganesh too has a similar role in this film. The actor, who is a huge fan of Shankar will bring back the actor’s legacy through his character,” the source says.

Post Chamak, Ganesh has some interesting projects lined up including Orange with Prashanth Raj, and a project with director Naganna, which will be his first attempt at horror. A project like Geetha, industry insiders say, will only take Ganesh’s career up another notch. On July 2, which happens to be the actor’s birthday, more details, including the date Geetha will go on floors, will be announced.
