Sports dramas aren't new to Bollywood. While Shahrukh Khan's Chak De India was inspired by the win of the Indian women's hockey team win at the 2002 commonwealth games, Akshay Kumar's upcoming film, Gold, is about the Indian men's hockey team's first Gold medal victory at the 1948 summer Olympics. It has been confirmed that the Reema Kagti-directorial starring Akshay in the lead will hit the screens on August 15.

Earlier, the release date of the film was expected to change as Akshay's mega-budget Rajinikanth-starrer, 2.0, was scheduled for release on the same day. But recently, it was made clear that the Shankar-directorial has been delayed once again, clearing the path for the release of Gold

Akshay Kumar, who has developed a penchant for offbeat roles, will be playing a hockey coach in this period sports drama.

Meanwhile, the Khiladi actor is also has Kesari, Housefull 4 and Mogul in various stages of production.
