With Bharathirajaa's upcoming directorial OM gearing up for release, the filmmaker has announced that his next film has been titled Sella Kaasu and it will be based on the real-life events that unfolded on the day that demonetization was announced, November 8, 2016. He has also announced that the film will feature top directors of Tamil cinema, like Ram, Vetrimaaran, and Ameer, in important roles.

Bharathirajaa, who broke the news during the teaser launch of OM, which stars newcomer Raashi Nakshathra, last week, also added that his Kurangu Bommai co-star Viddharth and debutant Subhiksha will play the lead in Sella Kaasu and it will be a full-fledged North Madras film on the lines of his 1990 film En Uyir Thozhan. "OM has been primarily shot in London, but my next project Sella Kaasu will be shot in a completely opposite slum backdrop," he said. About the casting of the directors, he added, "Many young directors say that they watch my films for reference. But, watching the work of these directors inspires me to work harder and make better films."

The filmmaker said that he will disclose the complete details of the project during the audio launch of OM, which is scheduled to take place on August 9.
